The Rural Thrust 2000 is a program of IGL aimed at imparting a better quality of life to all people irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and economic status. Initiated in 1995 with a focus on community and skill development, one of the main objectives of this program is to improve socio-economic conditions in rural areas and also work towards the uplifting of the downtrodden.

By these ‘good works’ the church truly becomes the ‘salt and light’ of the community. In return it also paves way for effective communication of the gospel.

• To provide basic health care services to the target population and to reduce the mortality and morbidity rates.
• To bring down the incidence of preventable diseases by a package of health services such as antenatal/postnatal care, immunization, growth care, and prevention of protein energy malnutrition among children under five.
• To train traditional birth attendants into active health guides to sustain the program.
• To bring awareness among the target group regarding the health care system. 
• To educate the target groups regarding safe sex and to make them aware of sexually transmitted diseases.
• To integrate the project activities with the government health care system so as to sustain the continuation of the activities initiated. 
• To promote the youth and mother sangams and to organize regular meetings and to involve them in village development activities. 
• To tap government resources through the sangams towards village development and to sustain them as autonomous organizations. 
• To promote thrift groups and to involve them in income generation activities to uplift the family income. 
• To involve the target communities in environmental protection and promotion activities. 
• To involve the target communities in home and village sanitation promotional activities to help prevent mosquito-borne diseases and communicable diseases such as TB, malaria, jaundice, etc. 
• To take up nursery and green belt promotion (social forestry). 
• To involve the community in sustainable resource management.
• To empower women through awareness trainings and to build up capabilities among them.
• To impart skill training and to involve women in production units (RCI 2020- Rural Community Industries) and co-operatives towards economically viable projects such as garment making, basketry, and bee-keeping.
• To impart agricultural information and to involve the community in eco-friendly practices. To portray the village church as the life-radiating center by encouraging the communities in and around the church through the love of Christ.
