Rural Pastors become “High Tech”

Imagine this: a return to the first century church – written resources are scarce, there are a few letters from the Apostle Paul floating around from church to church, as well as itinerant preachers (but you have to be on guard for “false teachers”) and yet the church has never seen such fast multiplication. Today in South Asia, the Church faces a similar situation.

Biblical resources are scarce, especially in rural South Asia – it can be difficult to find a full, intact Bible in your native language. Yet, God’s church is growing exponentially – through India Gospel League alone more than 85,000 churches have been planted since 1992! And church leadership is facing some of the same challenges as the Early Church – the lack of adequate resources combined with exponential growth makes it difficult to train leaders and workers to “be ready in season and out of season.” (2 Timothy 4:2)

Thankfully, India Gospel League has partnered with International Cooperating Ministries (ICM)* to help supply training resources! ICM provides portable audio devices with over 200 hours of teaching on both the Old and New Testaments, family, marriage and other topical teachings. To date, India Gospel League has distributed over 300 devices in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Oriya, Marathi, Hindi and Punjabi languages to zealous pastors and leaders who are eager to learn the material and turn around to teach it to others.

Because the devices are small and portable, they enable pastors and leaders to grow in their understanding of God’s Word wherever they are – ministering to their flock, on the road, planting new churches, spending time alone with God, etc. Over and over again the pastors and leaders can listen to the teachings of God’s Word so that they can say with David, “I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8)

*International Cooperating Ministries is an organization dedicated to reaching the world for Christ by partnering with other organizations to build churches and distribute Bible study materials.
