Transformed by obedience
“My name is Rao and I want to tell you how I met HOPE. My home was neither peaceful nor promising as I was a slave to alcohol. I cared little for my two small children and my wife. I was only abusive.
I found myself at the feet of a pastor one morning as I laid alongside the road in a drunken stupor. He showed me grace and spoke to me with simple words of hope. He told me about Jesus. That was in February and within a few weeks, I asked Christ into my life. I still struggled though, to stay sober, and shortly, thereafter because of the pandemic, the government forced all of India into a lockdown.
I barely survived without alcohol. Without the constant fellowship and guidance of the pastor, I began to feel depressed and contemplated committing suicide. It was at this time, that the pastor called me and encouraged me to gather with my family every day for prayer. I listened and did what he encouraged me to do.
Each day for two hours my wife and children pray and listen to the daily audio devotions (sent from the pastor, as part of Operation HOPE) and we are learning from the Bible. This simple act of obedience has had a profound impact on my mental well-being and spiritual life. The pastor says, ‘I am a transformed person.’ And today I tell you, my transformation is working to bless my family. Praise the Lord!”
Psalm 27:13 says, “I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
Maybe God is calling you to one simple act of obedience. It may seem difficult and not very practical.
Pray Big. Believe Big and watch how God wants to impact those closest to you.
Though India is struggling with great challenges due to the pandemic, God has been doing wonders and miracles despite the continued lockdown. A recent IGL ministry report from June shows that 6,048 people accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. 5,711 people have been baptized. New churches have been planted—302 of them. And we have 40 new church planters now working in unreached villages. 450 Bibles have been given out. Pastors, youth workers, and women have continued to be trained.
Kindly uphold new believers, like Rao, in your prayers for their spiritual growth and also to increase their faith in Jesus. Operation HOPE (Houses Of Prayer Everywhere) has been a powerful engine in encouraging great new growth. Families are spending time in God’s Word, praising and worshipping God, praying for others, and sharing the gospel and being transformed.
